Jeff Lowich's Road to the Breeders' Cup Blog - Belmont Weekend

The Belmont Stakes

Despite his most dangerous rival being scratched the morning of the race, and being put up against what appeared to be a less-than-stellar field, Big Brown failed to capture the Triple Crown. Da Tara went right to the lead, set some slow mid-race fractions and cruised to an easy win in the Belmont.

2010 Saratoga Meet Saved - Let the Horse Games Begin
For much of this year, it looked as if the great Thoroughbred Meet at Saratoga was not going to take place. What is Draw Bias?
In flat racing the horses start the race from metal starting stalls. The draw refers to a horse's placing / position in the starting stalls. Draw 1 is on the left, while the highest number is on the right. On left handed round courses the lowest draw is drawn next to the inside rail; on right handed courses the highest draw is drawn next to the inside rail.
